ABNA24 - The leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibrahim Ya’qub Zakzaky, says U.S. military bases in the Persian Gulf region are not there to protect Arab countries but to serve the Zionist project of a "Greater Israel."
Sheikh Zakzaky made the remarks in Abuja during a meeting with a group of cultural and political activists from Nigeria, where he strongly condemned the recent U.S. and Israeli aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
"The U.S. bases were not set up to protect the Persian Gulf states; they are part of a plan to protect the Greater Israel project," he stated.
He noted that some of the recent attacks on Iran were launched from the soil of the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain—both of which, he said, had agreements with Iran not to allow their territories to be used for aggression.
"The attack on the leader’s residence came from the UAE, and the attack on schoolchildren came from Bahrain," Sheikh Zakzaky said, referring to earlier strikes that killed dozens of students and civilians.
According to the Nigerian Shiite cleric, the enemies then targeted Iran’s economic infrastructure, including steel, cement, and power plants, aiming to weaken the country’s economy.
"Iran’s responses were proportionate and only targeted military centers linked to the enemy, never civilians," he emphasized.
Sheikh Zakzaky stated that the Zionist regime had been waiting for over 40 years for a U.S. president to wage war on Iran.
"Trump did that under Israeli provocation. They thought the U.S. attack would destroy Iran. The real reason for this hostility is Iran’s role in preventing the formation of Greater Israel," he explained.
The cleric further highlighted that Iran has supported Palestine out of Islamic duty, not sectarian motives.
"Iran has never taken a sectarian approach. It has supported Palestinians as oppressed Muslims," he said, adding that Iran’s stance led to the formation of resistance groups in Iraq, Lebanon, Yemen, and beyond.
Sheikh Zakzaky called on Muslims worldwide to pray for the victory of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the resistance front, recommending the recitation of Surah Yasin, Al-Fatiha, and the supplications of Sahifa al-Sajjadiyya.
